Greetings

This month marks a new chapter on so many levels. A new year, a new administration, a new path forward. Yet while the terrains of business, the economy and geopolitics (to name a few) remain uncertain, new key terms will become part of our vernacular. We've needed them for years, and our new president trumpeted their arrival in his inaugural address. Transparency and accountability. In the business world, the integration of those two terms creates a state that is essential to success - confidence.

Several years ago, my business partner and I were running another company called Prolific Publishing. We had the best developers and artists scattered across the country.

With misfires in communication, constant changes, and even resource conflict among our teams, the lack of

accurate visibility into our process was impacting output and efficiency, and our bottom line. We set about creating a better work environment.

The tool we developed was Qtask, a web-based, unified collaboration environment that integrates virtually everything a company does. It allowed us to produce more and in turn our confidence grew to the extent that we decided to make what started as a "self-help" tool, our primary business.

The bridge from hope to confidence can be fragile, and we are witnessing it across the board today. From macro to micro, from the Middle East to Washington, from Main Street to Wall Street. Even here in Burbank. We at Qtask know the change sought by so many in the business world and other sectors can be realized in great measure, through the integration of a collaboration environment that insists on transparency and accountability.
Confidence - its time has come.

Mix has served as the CEO of Qtask since it spun off from Prolific Publishing, Inc. in 2007, leading advanced software technology development to new levels.

Where we've been

Demofall '08 in September was a successful launch prompting Russell Mix to be invited to speak at two prominent conferences focused on innovation in business technology.

December saw our whole team from 4 continents, 8 countries, and 11 states converge in our Burbank offices for a weeklong Summit of meetings and brain storming sessions, culminating in our YEG (Year End Gathering) with family and friends.

  Where we are

Qtask has just launched its own YouTube Channel! If you haven't checked out the videos on our site, you now have two options!

Psst. Can you guess whose voice
is on our videos?

Where we're going

CampIT Conference (Rosemont, Illinois, February 5) Want to chat with Russell Mix in person? He'll be at the CampIT Conferences on Project and Portfolio Management along with Marvin Capel, our Regional Sales Manager for that area. If you are an IT professional and would like to attend, we have 3 tickets to give away. Contact Newsletter@Qtask.com

BIL (Long Beach, CA Feb 7-8) BIL is to TED what BarCamp is to Foo Camp. Okay, some of you may not get that reference, but let's just say that BIL is the coolest, un-conference around. A convergence of leading edge technology, ideas and humanity. We were there last year and we will be helping to sponsor this year as well. If you are in the area, stop by.

SEVC (Atlanta, Georgia, March 11-12) If you are near Atlanta, Georgia, stop by at the SouthEast Venture Conference and say hello to Keith DeMonbreun, Regional Sales Manager. We were there last year as well. The people in the south are soo friendly, we just had to go back!

Backstory

The Legendary Pink Dots has been one of my favorite bands since I was 15 years old. In Nov 1995 I went see them play in 3 cities, Portland, Seattle, and Vancouver. I got to meet Niels, the saxophone player. We hit it off instantly and have been friends ever since.

Funny... I didn't mean for my life to revolve around this band. But when they asked me to go on the road with them as their merchandiser last year... well... destiny beckoned.

Since Qtask really does have that virtual office thing down (although I do believe I'm the first to work from a van) I pleaded my case. And they more than said yes. Qtask lent me a laptop with a wireless access card. Trust in hand, I set out to make this experience as fruitful as I could for everyone.

Working conditions on the road

Working from the road presented some unique challenges. Certainly, working from a van with 5 other people around at all times is...well, challenging, to say the least. But respect was plentiful and I was able to do it!

We looked for hotel deals wherever we went. The room quality didn't vary

much across the US, but the competence of the employees did. There is nothing like being exhausted and getting to a motel at 2am, only to be told that the confirmed reservation had been given away... again.

The steady barrage of email I receive only seemed to increase while on the road. It became apparent very early that in order to succeed in getting any work done, I would need to just prioritize Qtask and deal with email when I got home.

In this regard, Qtask Discussions is pure bliss. It was so easy to prioritize, sort, and quickly read through conversations. Even if I only had 15 minutes, I could log into Qtask and see what was going on across all of my projects, allowing me to keep up with and have input into everything that was happening.

Coming home

By the end of the tour, it's pretty much all about survival... just get to the next place... find food... try and sleep. And yet, somehow, I still had a smile on my face every day. I loved the music, the fans and being a member of the band made it all worth it.

I am so grateful that Qtask was willing to work with me to allow me to have this experience. Thank you, once again. "Sing while you may!"

the color pink... Life!

Tips

Tabs - Did you know that you can have Qtask open in more than one browser tab at the same time? It's called 'Tabbed Browsing'. Ever responded to someone in a task and wanted to show them a file without leaving the discussion? Just open a new tab, upload your file, then copy the file's URL and paste it into the discussion thread in your previous tab. Et voilà! Learn more about tabbed browsing from Firefox or Internet Explorer.

Mobile - One more thing - if you're tabbed out (sorry, couldn't help ourselves) or on the run try Qtask mobile.
Simply go to www.iQtask.com for a text version of Qtask. We support the iPhone, Black Berry or any web-enabled mobile device.
