In his controversial book "Other People's Money and How the Bankers Use It" , Supreme Court Justice Louis D. Brandeis wrote, "Sunlight is said to be the best disinfectant. Electric light is the most efficient policeman... If there are flaws in our governing institutions, including our courts, we hide them only at our own peril."

Ironically, those words are as pertinent today as when they were published in 1914, and they apply to more than just the courts. From start-ups to major corporations to governments, today's economic landscape illustrates quite clearly how important Transparency & Accountability are - not only to success, but to out-and-out survival.

When everyone knows what the team is doing, not only do things become more efficient, but people are able to, and must, rely on each other even more to achieve success in their endeavors. Think about the term "interdependence" as leadership guru Stephen Covey discusses it in his classic "The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People" book.
